Everything the community needs is done by people who are learning the words themselves. Here is what each thing takes, in the order most people try them.
First, a name
Open the community site and pick a username. That's the whole sign-up: no password to invent, nothing to confirm. The first browser to claim a name keeps it, so nobody can pretend to be you by typing your handle. Add an email later if you want to sign in from another device; it also makes your votes count for more, because an identity that can be reached is harder to fake.
Vote, five minutes at a time
Every word page shows its candidate pictures. Under each are two buttons: helps me remember and doesn't. Ask one question only: would this picture bring the Spanish word back to me next week? Not whether it's pretty. One vote per picture; you can change it any time.

Submit a picture
Submitting needs a plan: Plus members can have pictures drawn, Studio members can also upload. Free members vote, comment, suggest words and report. Two routes, both from the word page:
- Generate one. Type the English sound-alike and, if you like, why it works. The house draws it in the app's style with the right gender colour. This is the route almost everyone uses.
- Upload your own. A drawing, a photo, a collage. The same rules apply: one clear object or scene, no writing anywhere in the picture, and the right ground colour for the word's gender.
Every picture is checked before anyone sees it, by the safety scanner or, until it's switched on, by a person, then released for voting. The full rules, what "checked" means and what happens next are in Submitting a picture.
Suggest a word
If the list is missing a word you needed this week, propose it with its meaning and, ideally, a sound-alike. Accepted words open for pictures like any other. How the word list grows.
Comment
Under each picture you can say why it works or doesn't. Two lines is plenty. Other members vote comments up when they're useful; the author of the picture sees them and can try again with a better keyword.
Report
If something shouldn't be there, use report this image and give the reason. The picture goes back behind the gate until a person or the rules settle it. Reports that stand up earn you a picture credit and reputation; reports that don't, cost a little. Details in Reports, penalties and how they lift.
What you get for it
Nothing for volume. Standing comes from being right: voting with the picture the community eventually chooses, submitting the picture that wins, reporting something that is then removed. Your vote weighs more as your record improves, your name earns badges on the People page, and being right pays picture credits you can spend on drawing your own. The numbers.
Bringing another language
Each language is its own community with its own word list. If you'd bring one, say so on the community site with a rough word count and who would vote. Spanish goes first; the next language opens when this one runs on its own.
